One of my favourite types of websites to audit is an ecommerce store.
Some months I’ll audit multiple ecommerce stores, which are either as one-off audits to help ecommerce stores get their approach to SEO to where it needs to be, or it might be at the start of a project when onboarding a new client.
Generally, I see a lot of the same issues regardless of CMS, so it’s really interesting to audit an ecommerce website to uncover both unique issues and those that may be common to a sector or CMS.
My audits focus on actionable insights and strategies that hone-in on organic revenue growth. It’s not just a case of running a website through a third-party tool.
And, when it comes to ecommerce websites specifically, you have to take into account aspects such as user data, UX, CTA’s, product positioning, trust factors and ultimately the broader UX when users actually land on your website.
Now, I’m not a UX expert, but I’ve done enough audits and have the experience from running my own ecommerce stores to know what users want.
So, with the above aspects I’ve mentioned and the below SEO mainstays that come with an ecommerce audit, you can see how it’s not just about a checklist approach. It’s about using SEO data to inform what your broader strategies need to be to do with organic targeting and how users experience your website when they’re actually on it.
To name a few, I use platforms and tools such as Screaming Frog, Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs, various page speed tools and much more to analyse and vet aspects of your ecommerce store including:
